The Garden – dance performance by Anabella Lenzu/DanceDrama a visceral multi-media collaboration inspired by The Palazzo Real in Caserta, Italy. A series of interrelated solos, duets, and ensemble pieces, The Garden features original music by Geoff Gersh and photography by Todd Carroll. Lenzu’s movement vocabulary originates from folk traditions using rustic primal gestures with accents of sweeping lyrical action that transports the audience to a vibrant physical and emotional space. Lenzu's newest work The Garden unmasks and transforms the conventional image of a garden, commonly seen as a tranquil space in which to commune with Nature.
Sunday, September 21st at 7pm:
Entroterra by Anabella Lenzu/DanceDrama, is a full length dance performance that transports you to the heart of the magical south of Italy, where the rhythms, rituals and typical Italian dances (tammurriatas, pizzicas and tarantellas) are rephrased through modern dance to reveal the map of the soul of a woman in four distinct stages of her life. The sacred and the profane, the quotidian and the eternal.
Anabella Lenzu reconstructs physical drama using contemporary movement and character development. Lenzu’s movement vocabulary originates from folk traditions using rustic primal gestures with accents of sweeping lyrical action that transports the audience to a vibrant physical and emotional space.

Ciao Italy Performing Arts Festival was conceived to create a bridge between the historic Italian community in Williamsburg and the more recent community of artists who are living and/or working in the neighborhood. We are presenting traditionally-based and Italian-inspired work by contemporary performers and scholars. This year's festival has been made possible in part through the generous support of Brooklyn Council of Arts, sponsored by Associazione San Cono and also endorsed by the Italian Cultural Institute of New York.
