Harper Continuum Dance Theatre presents COALESCE
COALESCE is a stimulating dance experience in which students and professional dancers unite to explore the human thoughts, interactions, and connections that occur during chance encounters with strangers. The concert marks the New York City debut of Harper Continuum Dance Theatre.
The bi-coastal collaboration will feature work by three different choreographers, as Cathy Allen, Artistic Director of Red Desert Dance Ensemble and Anastasia Weiss, Artistic Director of Magical Madness Dance Theater—both of Las Vegas—join NYC’s Heather Harper, Artistic Managing Director of Harper Continuum Dance Theatre, to lead dancers and audience members on a journey through humanity performed in three sections.
Cathy Allen’s Red Desert Dance Ensemble will contribute "Strangers on the Street." Inspired by the popular Humans of New York blog, the piece examines “Strangers”… passing, thinking, rushing, pausing, reflecting, a brief connection; then gone.
Continuing the exploration of human interaction, pieces from Anastasia Weiss take on technology: how it drives our lives and the chance encounters we miss as a result. Moving aimlessly throughout the day, isolating ourselves from those surrounding us is now a normal way of interacting—social isolation in the middle of millions of people.
The program will conclude with original works by Heather Harper that consider the moments when strangers do connect and remain linked, and the effect those resulting relationships have in molding each of us into who we are.
Furthering the concert’s theme, Harper Continuum Dance Theatre dancers will be learning choreography through virtual rehearsal—from New York City, Richmond, VA, Las Vegas, NV, and Venice, Italy—and will be introduced to each other on stage in time for the performances of COALESCE.
