Coppelia
Company:
Birmingham Royal Ballet
A frothy mix of mistaken identity and magical mayhem, the ballet centers on the story of an inventor and his marvelous mechanical doll, Coppélia. When the doctor leaves the life-size doll on his workshop balcony, she’s soon causing quite a stir in the village--particularly in the heart of the red-blooded young lover Franz, and the jealous mind of Franz’s real-life fiancée, Swanilda.
Swanilda mistakes the mannequin for a crying, talking, sleeping, walking rival and comic chaos is riotously unleashed. Birmingham Royal Ballet’s enchanting production of this joyous ballet, with its spectacular sets, lavish costumes, and high-flying dancing, is a happy-ever-after tale guaranteed to delight the whole family.
Virginia Symphony will perform the ballet’s score by Léo Delibes, a sparkling gem of the Romantic era.
