Screenings in June and July, 2013
RFP for Venues/Organizations Open April

NEW YORK (April 11, 2013) Dance Films Association (DFA) announces the first Films That Move: Request For Proposal open submission period. For the month of April, venues and organizations interested in working with DFA to create a program for Films That Move: Hot Pavement Dreams Summer Series in June and July, 2013 may submit an RFP.

Since 1999, DFA has facilitated the Dance on Camera Tour, bringing dance film to venues outside of New York City, ranging from Finland to Slovakia to Texas to Hawaii. In 2012, DFA launchedFilms That Move, a screening series with the intention to serve our immediate neighbors and move dance film throughout New York City. From large scale events to small intimate screenings,Films That Move presents ambitious, thematic programming specifically geared for the chosen venue and corresponding theme. Previous screenings have been at Dixon Place, Gibney Dance Center, Arts Brookfield’s Winter Garden in the World Financial Center, Baryshnikov Arts Center, and the Solar 1 Green Energy, Arts, and Education Center. Many of these films are culled from the annual Dance on Camera Festival, co-presented with the Film Society of Lincoln Center, reflecting DFA’s dedication to support filmmakers year round. Programs also consist of additional films from DFA’s archives and dance filmmaker member-base.

RFP Submission Process

  • Anyone can apply, but venues must be based in New York City.Membership to DFA is not a requirement.

  • DFA will open submission four times per year. Each submission period will be for the corresponding seasonal series.

  • DFA staff will make selections based on factors such as dates, location, and the feasibility of a program in respect to current DFA programming.

  • Once the current RFP closes, notifications will be sent out in one week to all those who applied.

RFP Guidelines

  • DFA upholds paying filmmakers. We ask that venue contribute 50 towards artists fees. DFA will facilitate communications with the filmmakers, manage print traffic, oversee the screening, supply staff at the event, publicize the screening, and of course work closely to curate the program.

  • We like to be conscious of the films that are screening and their specific relationship to the the venue so there is programming continuity.

  • RFP’s are only open for one season at a time. For example, submissions in April are for screenings in June or July. For screenings at other times of the year, please follow the schedule below for submission periods.

  • To keep these programs accessible, we hope they’ll be open to the public and easy to attend, either free of charge, donation based, or a small admission fee. We are happy to work with venues to make this more feasible, but ask this to be under consideration when applying.

  • IMPORTANT: This is an RFP/submission form for venues interested in screening dance films. This is not a submission form for filmmakers interested in having their films screened.
