Steffi Nossen Dance Foundation

The Steffi Nossen Dance Foundation in White Plains, NY seeks a part-time intern to complete a year-long archival project for this historic organization. Founded by the German modern dance pioneer, Steffi Nossen in 1937, the foundation includes a pre-professional school for ages 3-18, along with outreach and education programs and adoptive dance classes for children and adults with special needs.

In an effort to properly catalog, preserve and distribute 78 years of history, the foundation has received a generous grant to archive all photos, videos and articles of interest digitally. The project is already underway but requires a detail-oriented individual with a passion for dance and interest in dance history and education to complete our expansive archival collection. Dancers and teachers who appear in our archives include Alvin Ailey, Carla Maxwell, Ted Shawn, Ruth St. Denis, Pam Tanowitz, Norman Walker, and many more. This is the ideal project for a college student who enjoys visiting the dance archives of the New York Public Library or scrolling through the online archives of Jacob's Pillow.

At the completion of the project, certain photos and videos will be uploaded to our website for wider viewing.

Duties include: scanning and cataloging photos; digitizing VHS tapes to DVD and digital files; uploading prominent alumni photos and stories to our website; identifying alumni in photos.

Skills required: basic computer knowledge; interest in editing, archiving; interest and experience in dance. We will teach you how to archive the files properly - no previous experience required.

8-12 hours/week required in our office. Intern may begin in January and end in May (dates flexible with school schedule).  A $50/week stipend will be provided. Our office is a ten-minute walk from the White Plains train station on Metro North and a 10-15 minute drive from SUNY Purchase, Manhattanville College and Sarah Lawrence College.

To apply, please send a cover letter and resume to Executive Director Kaylen Ratto Giannini at kaylen@steffinossen.org. No phone calls please.
