DANCE WORKS UNHINGED ON JULY 20 & 21, 2013

 

A SPECIAL PROGRAM OF ORIGINAL WORK CHOREOGRAPHED, PERFORMED AND PRODUCED BY MEMBERS OF ALVIN AILEY AMERICAN DANCE THEATER TO

RAISE FUNDS FOR EDUCATION AND CAREER TRANSITION OPPORTUNITIES

 

(New York – July 1, 2013) — The Ailey dancers invite fans and friends to Dance Works Unhinged, a self-produced performance of original works in the intimate surroundings of The Ailey Citigroup Theater on Saturday, July 20th at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, July 21st at 3:00 p.m.  Ticket proceeds will go to the Ailey Dancers’ Resource Fund, which assists current and former company members with grants for career transition, creative endeavors or emergency loans.

 

Dance Works Unhinged will feature choreography and performances by members of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Ailey dancers creating works for the special program include Hope Boykin, Sean A. Carmon, Vernard J. Gilmore, Megan Jakel, Yannick Lebrun, Jamar Roberts, Matthew Rushing, Kanji Segawa, Jermaine Terry and Marcus Jarrell Willis.

 

Dance Works Unhinged is a rare opportunity to enjoy the many facets of the Ailey dancers up close at the home of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater – The Joan Weill Center for Dance - 405 West 55th Street (at Ninth Avenue).  On July 20th and 21st, for two performances only, support and experience the dynamic technique, passionate artistry and unique choreographic voices of the world renowned Ailey company members as never before.

AILEY DANCERS’ RESOURCE FUND - MISSION STATEMENT

 

Ailey Dancers’ Resource Fund provides financial assistance to current and former Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater company members in the form of Career Transition Grants, Creative Endeavor Grants and Emergency Loans. 

·         Career Transition Grants assist dancers in pursuing new career paths when the inevitable retirement from performing occurs 

·         Creative Endeavor Grants provide dancers with support for choreographic projects and workshops

  • Emergency Loans are for dancers faced with emergency situations such as illness and disability

 

Proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to Ailey Dancers’ Resource Fund grant and loan program that provides financial assistance to dancers.
