This FREE fall festival of site-specific dance will feature the work of four diverse choreographers; two from the Downtown NYC dance community and two Red Hook based artists. Each choreographer is commissioned to create a new work for location in the Erie Basin Park behind IKEA in Red Hook, Brooklyn.

Featuring the work of Joya Powell/Movement of the People, Shannon Hummel/Cora Dance, Kathy Westwater, Solomon Goodwin MVP, and special surprise guests.

This unique event celebrates a diverse range of work. Last year’s program included former Cunningham dancer, Rashaun Mitchell’s cinematic duet that romped across the port’s distant vistas as well as Shannon Hummel’s pop-up dance, Car, that burst from a parked vehicle - alarming and charming waiting Water Taxi passengers. Red Hook dance artists filled their works with the latest Hip Hop and Dancehall steps, and featured casts that range in age from 3 years old to 30. The festival celebrates the cultural diversity that abounds in Brooklyn while animating an urban site rich in history and symbolic of current global trends.

Funding for this project has been provided by the Mertz Gilmore Foundation as well the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs.
