Dance Visions NY

Dance Visions NY, under the direction of Beth Jucovy, is presenting a special Spring performance at the newly renovated theater at the North Shore Towers complex. The company specializes in the authentic dances of Isadora Duncan as well as original works which are inspired by the Duncan aesthetic.  This concert will honor Pearl Seligson, a North Shore Towers resident who had been an Isadora Duncan dancer, dancing with 2nd- generation Duncan exponent Lillian Rosenberg. With this concert at North Shore Towers, audiences will viscerally witness both the authentically preserved legacy of Isadora Duncan as well as examples of how this legacy has left its mark on today's dancemakers.

Isadora Duncan repertory that will be included are works that highlight Duncan's strong affinity for nature and her philosophy of humanism and hope. These are solo and group pieces to the music of Chopin, Brahms, Gluck, and dances to Schubert's Symphony in C (the great), which are tributes to the Greek gods Dionysus and Artemis. Jucovy's original works include "Through the Portals" incorporating artist Susan Ruth Cohen’s paintings as portals into worlds of color and relationships, "Landscapes", a classical mood work to spanish guitar which is being revived in full for this program, and "Rejuvenation", a dance celebrating the glory and freedom of outdoor spaces.

Dancers: Danielle Atkinson, Louisa Cathcart, Vanessa Ferranti, I-Nam Jiemvitayanukoon, Beth Jucovy, Hope Kroog, Laura Marciano, Rebekah Mulkey, Hyo-Jin Rim
Soprano: Daisy Korman   Host: Shirley Romaine

Dance Visions NY, Inc. brings the Isadora Duncan artistic legacy into the present. Through presentations of the authentic Duncan works as passed on by Jucovy's 2nd generation mentors, and through presentation of original works, influenced by Duncan principles, the company keeps the spirit and aesthetic of Isadora Duncan strong and relevant in today's world. www.dancevisionsny.org
