New York, NY — Danse Lumiere is thrilled to announce “A Pop-Up Ballet in Hell’s Kitchen,” a one-day-only performance bringing together original choreography, short films, and guest artists from New York City Ballet in an intimate salon setting at the Ailey Studios.

Curated by Kathryn Roszak, Founding Artistic Director of Danse Lumiere, this exclusive event will feature innovative ballet works that interweave narrative, literature, and motion, alongside cinematic ballet experiences.

"It's important to me as a creator and presenter that audiences experience the page on the stage in a way that enhances the original material,  opens minds and crosses genres" says Roszak, who recently relocated to NYC from San Francisco.

Featured Artists and Works:

  • Laine Habony, dancer with New York City Ballet, will present “Nocturne” and other recent works from PointeWorks and Revolve Dance.
  • Kathryn Roszak, offers choreographic interpretations of literary works by Isabel Allende and Jane Austen—the latter celebrating the 250th anniversary of the author's birth—as well as abstract narratives.
  • Guest dancers include Victor Abreu (New York City Ballet) and Alexa Maxwell (soloist, New York City Ballet).

Also on the Program:

Two original short ballet films by Roszak and collaborators that expand the conversation between dance and visual storytelling.

Music By:

Katie Jenkins, Juilliard faculty composer
Esa Pekka Salonen
Mads Tolling

Additional Viewing Opportunities:

As this is a single-date performance, Roszak is also offering special invitations to select rehearsals. Interested guests may contact Audrey Ross for further details on dates and locations.
