FJK DANCE Presents “MUNDO” at Peter Norton Symphony Space Theater  on NOVEMBER 17, 2016 at 7:30 PM

FJK Dance, the contemporary dance company dedicated to fusing different forms of dance, will present “MUNDO” as its annual 2016 Works-In-Progress performance at the Upper West Side’s iconic Peter Norton Symphony Space Theatre on Thursday, November 17, 2016.  This one-night-only preview of the dance troupe’s 2017 season featuring live music will showcase the troupe’s creative process and celebrate new artistic collaborations.

During the program FJK Dance will present highlights from three original collaborations and choreographies created by Fadi Khoury. “Fusing the vocabularies of various dance forms -modern, jazz, ballet, folkloric - allows disparate groups to speak to each other through a unified aesthetic,” said Fadi Khoury, Founder and Artistic Director of FJK Dance.

The performance’s repertoire will include:

  • Oblivion: A story inspired by the dramatic movement of tango and its sensuality in partnering. Music by Astor Piazzolla played live by cello quartet X4 of MusicTalk, and by Sergei Rachmaninoff played live by classical pianist Jonathan Rondinelli. Costumes are created through a special collaboration with fashion designer (Hervé Pierre) former Creative Director at Carolina Herrera.
  • Move: A trio inspired by African rhythms, samba and Arabic percussion.  It features Sophia Bogdanova, Latin-American ballroom champion. Music is by Said Mrad incorporating electronic beats with acoustic instruments.
  • Mundo: A dance which highlights the joining of Latin American social dancing and folkloric movement. The score includes music by Paco de Lucia and Diego Amador featuring jazz pianist Frank Abenante and his NYC Latin Jazz Ensemble, under the guidance of FA BrandTuning.

Tickets to the performance range from $25-$85, with all proceeds being used to fund FJK Dance’s 2017 New York annual season.
