The Felice Lesser Dance Theater’s 40th Anniversary Season begins with Summer Studio Sketches, an informal, retrospective studio performance followed by a reception for everyone in attendance, at New York’s New 42nd Street Studios on July 24th at 7 pm.

Darius Crenshaw (formerly of the NYC Ballet, The Color Purple & Motown: The Musical) will be featured in The Sirens’ Song, originally premiered in 1991 at the Tokyo International Choreography Competition, and rechoreographed to a score by Philip Glass. Mr. Crenshaw and veteran FLDT member Debra Zalkind, will also present a scene from 1995’s Running Backwards on the Treadmill. Another long-time FLDT member, Kristin Licata, will perform her solo from Lesser’s “live documentary,” Accolade Award Winner, I AM A DANCER (2006), that depicted Ms. Licata’s real-life knee injury, rehabilitation, and triumphant return to the stage. Ms. Licata will also perform “can u hear me now?” from Lesser’s 2013 work about modern communications, 2BZ4U, to a score by Seymour Barab. “Tango” from S.L.E.D. (1988), also to music by Mr. Barab, will be danced by new FLDT company member, Dona Wiley. Kanae Kuzu, Savannah Lee, Danielle Shupe, and Asha Sienkiewicz will complete the company, making their FLDT debuts in “Menousis” (from Seirenes, 1988), “Reflections” (from the 2000 dance/video work, NEW YORK, NY), and The Sirens’ Song.

Jessica Lessin (former dancer with FLDT, current Board Member, and founder of the online technology publication, The Information), will be the evening’s host.
