Graham 2, a pre‐professional dance company comprised of the most advanced students of the Martha Graham School, presents its 2015 New York season at the Martha Graham Studio Theater. The season opens with a special benefit performance honoring esteemed Graham alumna Diane Gray. Diane Gray was Associate Artistic Director of the Martha Graham Dance Company and Director of the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance from 1983 to 1997. A former principal dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company, Ms. Gray performed with the company for sixteen years and continues to teach, choreograph, and stage works for various dance companies. Graham 2's opening night program will feature a short film on Ms. Gray by Nancy Stevens.
The season’s program includes a world premiere by renowned choreographer Blanca Li. Entitled Turning Point, the piece for 15 Graham 2 dancers is set to music by contemporary composer Tao Gutierrez. A selection of Graham classics ― Diversion of Angels, Steps in the Street, Satyric Festival Song, Heretic, and excerpts from Night Chant ― completes the program.
