Groove with Me's Tap & Tapas fundraiser raises money for the East Harlem-based organization to continue to provide free dance classes to local young women who might otherwise not be able to afford classes or have a safe after-school activity. In addition to dance classes, the organization provides free dance shoes, costumes, snacks, and trips to the program participants. The proceeds of the fundraiser will go towards funding Groove With Me’s mission to engage with girls during the after-hours of school when 90% of youth violence occurs. Groove With Me builds self-confidence in an effort to prevent teen pregnancy, substance abuse, crime, truancy, prostitution, and depression.
The Tap & Tapas fundraiser is a walk-around tasting event featuring some of NYC’s best chefs and a live auction as well as a performance from some of Groove With Me’s students. This year chefs from Victor, Brine, La Chula, and L’Amico will be serving guests some of their most sought-after menu items. Signature cocktails will be prepared from Riazul and Angel of Harlem.
This year’s event will honor Skylar Brandt, Principal Dancer at American Ballet Theater, who is being recognized for her dedication to being a role model to young girls. Brandt was recently named on Forbes's prestigious 30 Under 30 list.
