Dear friend,

May 25 is the birthday of legendary tap dancer Bill "Bojangles" Robinson and is celebrated every year as National Tap Dance Day!

There are lots of events happening around the country on and around May 25, below are some of those we recommend checking out!

Michela Marino Lerman & the American Tap Dance Foundation Present:
Dr. James "Buster" Brown Centennial Celebration
 May 17th-19th, 2013

On Friday, May 17, 2013, Dr. James "Buster" Brown would have been 100 years of age. On his centennial weekend, we gather to celebrate his soaring spirit of love and generosity and the artful mastery of his chosen means of expression... tap dance. We rejoice in the teaching and re-creation of some of his most famous dance pieces, immerse ourselves in films of his work and discussions of his importance, and bring it home to party at Swing 46, site of one of his most enduring and endearing creations, the Buster Brown Tap Jam. This will be a weekend packed with memories to last a lifetime.

Master class teachers include: Kazu Kumagai, Mable Lee, Michela Marino Lerman, Max Pollak, Jason Samuels Smith, Dianne Walker and more. On Sunday, May 19th there will be a "Film Presentation" presented by Hank Smith followed by a Panel Discussion that will be moderated by Constance Valis Hill. Meanwhile, the final show will be located at Swing 46 at 6pm on May 19th.

Milt & Honi

Producers Club Grand Theater (2nd Floor)
358 W. 44th St. (btw 8th & 9th Ave.) NYC, NY

Milt & Honi is a 16mm documentary feature film on the life-long friendship between two American jazz giants; bass player, Milt Hinton and tap dancer, Charles "Honi" Coles. Their memoirs of touring with Cab Calloway and his big band recall the roots of jazz and the beginning of bebop. The film features original music and choreography written and performed by both Milt Hinton and Honi Coles. Behind the scenes musical rehearsals and practice sessions reveal some of the secrets of these masters, as they are joined by tap dancer and choreographer Brenda Bufalino, with Mickey Tucker, piano & Bobby Rosengarden, drums. Rare footage includes photos taken by Milt Hinton throughout his long career of his fellow musicians in recording sessions, touring clubs and theaters and travelling from town to town celebrating the magic of jazz.

Narrator: Gregory Hines, Director: Louise Tiranoff, Asst. Director: Michael "Toes" Tiranoff
