What is hoop-dance?
Hoop-dance is a growing movement practice merging play, dance, fitness and creative expression. This unique form of movement meditation and dance develops balance, grace, strength and flexibility. Research shows it can be effective in integrating right- and left-brain functioning, relieving stress and anxiety, and encouraging growth of new neural pathways.

Instructor: Karlie Dean
A self-taught hula-hoop performer, Karlie has developed “Hoop-Dance” classes that focus on self-expression and personal wellness based on her experience in yoga and Pilates and her hooping expertise. She has been performing and teaching hoop dance since 2011 and is based in New York.

Description:
Learn the fundamental moves of hoop-dance what will allow you to build a solid foundation for the dance form. This class will teach you various arm and body hoop-dance tricks as well as how to tie them together into creative routines – all the while increasing flexibility and toning the entire body. The flow of movements made with the hoop allows our mind and body to become better connected – increase our awareness and generate an appreciation for the body and its capabilities.

Description:
In this class we take your hoop skills to the next level. An emphasis will be placed on developing an individual style and fluidity of movement within your hoop. We will explore leg hooping, vortex variations, tosses, rolls, isolations and transitions between all of the various hoop-dance movements. In addition to learning new tricks every week, Karlie will guide you through hoop-dance exercises geared to push you out of your comfort zone and past blockages in your flow. This is where hoop-dance becomes a dance!
