Ailey II’s Artistic Director Troy Powell will lead a Horton master class for one day only. Prominent Alvin Ailey works, including Revelations, prominently features the shapes of Horton technique. This class is designed to focus on the fundamental elements of Horton: flat backs, lateral stretches, release swings, deep lunges, and stag position. Combinations of movements across the floor will include flexibility, coordination, and finding a sense of dynamics that will enable dramatic freedom of expression. Musicality and movement quality will be emphasized. This class will be accompanied by a live musician.
