"Around The Fortress" is about connection. Seven performers, including choreographer Marcos Duran, embark on a 40 minute journey through isolation, imagination and revelry. Inspired at the beginning of new love, this work confronts the difficulties of breaking down a lifetime of emotional and psychological walls that hinder our ability to experience the depths of vulnerability and intimacy. As Marcos' first full length work and first collaboration with composer Adam Lahm, it will serve as a landmark in his choreographic career, especially as it culminates his first decade as a choreographer and director.

Barbara Mahler will present three dances, a trio and two solos, which will include the artistry of Jamie Graham, Alissa Lazaro, Trina Mannino, and Ms. Mahler. The program re-visits two older works - "Etched Sketches" and "Uno" as well as "Precipice", a solo created with the support of New Dance Alliance's Lift-Off program. All three dances create intricate tapestry's with the environment, relying on the language of movement and music/sound alone. Bartok's "Mikrokosmos", Sarah Williams' "EM2" will accompany, as well as a sound score by Ms. Mahler.

"Although everything is beautifully correct in Mahler's motions her choreography never feels calculated or predictable. We have no idea where she will go next but we watch with both eagerness and comfort, extremely curious to see what new kinetic terrain she will explore." Backstage, NYC (L.J. Sagolla)
