Jon Ole Olstad is a unique award winning dancer, teacher and choreographer based in New York City. Originally from Norway, his career took off working with some of the most prestigious and influential choreographers and companies in Europe such as Ohad Naharin’s Batsheva Dance Company and Nederlands Dans Theatre 1. Jon is constantly searching for an emotional expression of dance that is practiced and indulged through celebration. With this in mind his craft is immensely brave, unique, passionate, and vulnerable.
Over the course of the two-days, Jon will begin with a class that focuses on expanding limits; encouraging dancers to reach further, break habits and take a personal investigation in order take their dancing to a completely different landscape. Jon emphasizes a balance between doing the steps that are given while letting the dancer and person color the movements. The second portion of each class Jon will continuously give out diverse movement tasks, intricate physicality games and mindful fantasies so dancers can discover just how many incredible ways to physically maximize their movement vocabulary. Dancers will work by themselves and also in duet or in larger group settings to find new approaches to their dancing vocabulary.
