Brooklyn, NY: Triskelion Arts is proud to present a new evening-length work by choreographer Kathy Wasik. Join her as she seeks to uncover the hidden strata of movement and the mind. Irregular Solids asks, what is an alter ego? How might a person become her? Is a dance a sort of alternate universe? Does it have an alter ego? These questions result in a strange world (or multiple worlds) in which the dancers and the dance itself slowly unveil selves within selves. Performed by Alessandra Larson, Cara Liguori, and Kathy Wasik, with original sound score written and performed by Ethan Frederick Greene. Lighting design by Andrew Dickerson.
Wasik is interested in the logic of feeling and the paradoxical nature of such an idea. She creates dances that require an extreme vulnerability on the part of the performers. Irregular Solids is comprised of a series of tasks for each dancer. Shifts in the performers’ psychological and emotional states prompt transitions from one task to another. As the work evolves, tasks become increasingly less specific, allowing for a greater range of possibility onstage. As the piece opens up, so does each performer, so that by the end of Irregular Solids, each dancer has experienced a wide spectrum of selves.
Performances will take place at Triskelion Arts in the Aldous Theater, November 22 - 23 (Friday and Saturday) at 8pm. Tickets are $15 and are available online at http://wasik2013.brownpapertickets.com/ and at the door, starting at 7:30 the evening of each performance. Triskelion Arts is located at 118 N. 11th St. (3rd Floor) in Brooklyn, NY. Please visit triskelionarts.org for directions.
