Jumatatu Poe and Jesse Zaritt began working together artistically two and a half years ago, as strangers. Their current work explores that specific relationship, asking: what happens when two unknown entities create work together? Mutually interested in ideas of queerness and heroism, the pair’s creative process involves personal self-discovery within the framework of a partnership. In their new duet More Mutable Than You, Poe and Zaritt create a performance world that juxtaposes images of the conqueror, the valiant, and the superhero with notions of failure, the victimized, and the fallen.
About the Artists
Jumatatu Poe and Jesse Zaritt began working together artistically two and a half years ago, as strangers. Jesse has performed his solo work in Russia, Korea, Germany, New York, Japan, Mexico, and Israel. He has performed in the work of Shen Wei and Faye Driscoll. Jumatatu has toured his solo and group work in several US cities, and also in Brussels and West Germany. He is an Assistant Professor of Dance at Swarthmore College.
