The renowned Flamenco company, Jesús Muñoz Flamenco, based out of Albuquerque, is presenting its 7th annual summer series at Flamenco Works’ Downtown tablao. This stunning 104-year-old venue stands as a vibrant community hub, offering lively dance classes and dynamic, artistically captivating performances. This summer, we will feature an outstanding roster of artists from both Spain and the United States.
(Singer) Alejandro Silva from Cadiz, (Singer) Jose Cortes from Marseille, France, (Guitarist) Mariano Silva from Sevilla, Spain, (Bass) Asher Barreras from Albuquerque, (Dancer) Amalyah Muñoz, and (Dancer/Choreographer) Jesús Muñoz out of Albuquerque, NM.
For the past seven years, Albuquerque residents and visitors alike have eagerly awaited the unique choreographies and original compositions that Jesús Muñoz Flamenco creates for their June season. Each summer is unique, featuring collaborations with distinguished guest dancers and musicians who share powerful and important messages with their work.
This summer, we bring a message of hope, resilience, and connection. The recent attacks on numerous members of our community, including artists and nationwide arts funding organizations like the National Endowment for the Arts, have tested the core of our work. Yet, we persist, more urgently than ever, to create, to connect, to bring a message of our shared humanity, and to honor the beautiful diversity of our community.
Muñoz says, “For this summer series, I wanted to return to the roots, the raw deep emotion that has given hope and strength to generations of people throughout history. This year has been a test in so many different ways. I felt that right now we needed to feel again, to connect with our shared humanity and emotions: celebration, joy, heartbreak, grief, loneliness. Flamenco does this. We emerge this summer with a determination to live, to be together, and to share in a single fleeting moment. I mean that is what live performance is, right? One second it’s here, the next it’s gone. Cherish the moment.” -Jesús Muñoz
