I Giullari di Piazza
Join I Giullari di Piazza, the Southern Italian folk music/dance/theater company, for "Belloni, La Barbera, and La Befana Talk and Sing," a special live online presentation featuring music from the Neapolitan Renaissance Christmas show "La Cantata dei Pastori" (The Shepherd's Cantata).
The superb company, authorities in Southern Italian folk arts dating back to the 13th century, will perform music and speak about the beloved 17th century show by Andrea Perrucci of Naples. Artists are acclaimed Alessandra Belloni and John La Barbera, Max McGuire as La Befana (the Good Witch of Christmas), violinist Joe Deninzon and dancer/singer Francesca Silvano. The play, which is still performed annually in the area of Naples, follows Mary and Joseph on their travels to Bethlehem and their many adventures along the way. They meet Razzullo, a commedia dell'arte character, and also fight off demons dispatched by the Devil to try to stop the birth of Jesus. In the end, the couple reach their destination and good prevails over evil.
