Lori Belilove & The Isadora Duncan Dance Company, the pre-eminent Isadora Duncan company performing today, will honor their namesake in The Art of Isadora as part of the Untermyer Performing Arts Council's Summer Concert Series. This free performance marks the company's fourth return engagement at Untermyer Park. The program will unfold the life and art of the extraordinary dancer with sensational dancing, delighting audiences of all ages.
This is a rare opportunity for audiences to see original Duncan choreographies coached by dancers from Duncan's original troupes. Highlights of the program include Isadora's "Impressions of Soviet Russia" featuring two group works set to Russian Worker's songs and three Scriabin etudes Mother, Revolutionary and The Crossing at St. Petersburg, choreographed by Isadora Duncan in Russia between 1920 and 1924. Enjoy masterpieces choreographed by Duncan revealing the astonishing creativity augmented by her life story as told in her own words and theatrically staged by Lori Belilove.
Solo dancers from Isadora's original company brought their companies to perform at the Untermyer Estate Park in the 1930's. In 1932, under the auspices of the women's division of the Architect's Emergency Committee, Irma Duncan and her dancers performed for the garden fete benefit. Of that troupe of Irma Duncan Dancers, three of the four soloists, Julia Levien, Hortense Kooluris, and Sima Borisovana Leake, have coached members of Lori Belilove & The Isadora Duncan Dance Company.
Performers include soloist Lori Belilove and Company dancers Faith Kimberling, Emily D'Angelo, Kimberly D'Agnese, Allison Kimmel, Morgana Rose Mellett, and junior company dancers Emma Cohen and Samantha Jo Vicens.
