In L’Eau d’Europe, Rimbaud’s work is illuminated and reimagined through contemporary music and dance theatre, as chords from the past coalesce in new forms resonating, in the present day, by interweaving the poetry of Arthur Rimbaud with nouvelle dance choreography and original music compositions and stylings, the artists reach across the ocean with gestures towards the future that Rimbaud dreamed while rebelling against his omnipresent mother and struggling in his tumultuous relationship with Paul Verlaine.
Laura Ward consolidates her interest in symbolism and poetry by joining the forces of her company, Octavia Cup, with French artists composer Michel Ayello and interpretive actor, Michel Panier to bring into existence L’Eau d’Europe. The show revolves around the poetry of Arthur Rimbaud. Michel and Michel created an album centered on this work, which was performed live in Paris in 2010. This transatlantic collaboration is geared towards performances for the Avignon Off Festival and the Marseille-Provence 2013 Festival. Artist Judy Thomas is also part of the team creating set installations.
Dancers: Cassie Roberts, Laura V. Ward, Natalia Wodnicka
An open rehearsal of the work in progress will be previewing at the Secret Theatre Poco, April 19th-22nd, suggested donation, $ 12.
