ACB PRESENTS DANCING SCHOOL II

American Contemporary Ballet presents Dancing School II, part of our Backstage series and a most unusual, entertaining, and illuminating look at how ballet works.

Dancing School uses an approach rarely, if ever, seen: dance in comparative performance. Multiple dancers attempt the same short solo as  ACB’s Director compares them, movement by movement, in real time, articulating their strengths, weaknesses, and differences in expression.

Our special Dancing School guest is Suki Schorer, who occupies a rare place in dance history. A principal dancer for The New York City Ballet, she was selected by legendary choreographer George Balanchine to teach in his company and school. She has codified the most important technical legacy in ballet, and is the author of Balanchine Technique.

Ms. Schorer will demonstrate Balanchine’s innovations through his brilliant choreography of Divertimento No. 15; afterward, ACB Director Lincoln Jones will interview her about working with the master, and her 50 years developing leading dancers for The New York City Ballet and companies around the world.
