ABARUKAS Dance, Yoshito Sakuraba, Artistic Director/Choreographer, will present the premiere of Sakuraba's "Lullaby to Mr. Adam," danced by a 7-member company whose credits include Pilobolus, Cirque du Soleil and Australian Dance Theatre, joined by the hip-hop company vikake, also featuring 7 dancers.  Two performances, August 17 at 7:30 PM and August 18 at 6 PM at MMAC, 248 West 60th Street.

Choreographer Yoshito Sakuraba, a native of Japan, has much to say, though he does not tell his stories in a literal fashion, preferring to present images and impressions which clearly express relationships and situations, but leave room for the viewer's individual interpretation.   Founded in 2009, his company has performed at HERE Arts Center, Dixon Place, Secret Theater, Baruch College, Triskelion Arts and other NYC venues.

Sakuraba moved from Japan to New York at the age of nineteen and started dancing a year later.   He graduated from Manhattanville College and attended the Martha Graham School before forming his own company.

Making its debut on this program is guest hip-hop company vikake, founded by Vivake Khamsingsavath.  Born in upstate New York to parents from Laos, Vivake began his dance training at Binghamton University.   For his new company, he has recruited dancers who have already appeared with other groups on the Today Show, Steps on Broadway, and other dance companies and TV shows.
