"For musicality and fine structuring, few people currently choreographing in the New York
dance scene can compare with Lydia Johnson.   There is thought, passion and tenderness in
her work, and a depth of musical resonance that is very satisfying to behold."
                           Philip Gardner, Oberon's Grove, 2012

"It is an artist's goal to create something that is lasting, a work that will stand the test of time,
a work as relevant in fity years as it is now.   Lydia Johnson has done this with "Summer
  "House."
Darrell Wood, NYC Dance Stuff, 2012

"...Lydia Johnson often isolates and reworks components of classical ballet technique to create a sense of life flowing unhurriedly over mysterious human stories."
Jennifer Dunning, The New York Times, 2005

Lydia Johnson Dance will present the world premieres of two new works by choreographer Johnson, set to music by Franz Schubert and Osvaldo Golijov.    Known for her seamless blend of ballet and contemporary dance and her sensitive musicality, Johnson presents a 14-member ensemble whose credits include dancing with the American Ballet Theatre and the companies of Tricia Brown, Kyle Abraham, and Lar Lubovitch, among others.   Performances are June 6, 7 & 8 at 7:30 PM at the Ailey Citigroup Theater, 405 West 55 Street (at Ninth Avenue).

In addition to the premieres, the Company will repeat Johnson's 2009  "Dusk," showing the choreographer's love and affinity for the music of contemporary Polish composer Henryk Gorecki, described by Johnson as "often intense and rhythmic, with passages of achingly - almost eerie - softness."

From 2012 is "Change of Heart," set to J.S. Bach's Three Part Inventions 2-11, played by Andras Schiff, created by Johnson for one of the best reasons: "because of the intense beauty of the music."  The piece unfolds through its three sections with a series of patterns and relationships - a pas de deux for a man and woman, and a duet for two men emerge as central passages in this complex, layered work.
