MICHIGAN: The Detroit Dance City Festival
Detroit Dance City Festival (DDCF) is a three-day community building event that celebrates dance in its various forms and disciplines. This includes workshops, performances and networking opportunities held at various locations throughout the city of Detroit. Our mission is to educate audiences about the impact of dance, provide opportunities for artists to share their work, and create an artistic network between Michigan, the United States and the world!
DDCF will offer a great variety of dance workshops for all ages, led by the field’s leading practitioners, whose styles range from modern to jazz, ballet to hip-hop. Also being offered are many free and affordable performances, such as the Choreographers Showcase, Summer Stage Performances, Friday Funk Night, and a Dance and Celebration, all performed at the DIA (in areas provided by the Detroit Institute of Arts). In addition to the performances and workshops, festival participants are invited to relax, network, and meet the artists and other festival goers at the after-parties each evening.
The 2016 Detroit Dance City Festival drew over 4,000 festival participants and this year we hope to continue to grow with the creation of an international collaborative project, Festival Exchange Program; spearheaded by the Festival’s parent organization, ARTLAB J. DDCF will also host a great variety of diverse dance workshops led by the field’s leading practitioners whose styles range from modern to jazz, ballet to hip-hop. Aside from the performances and workshops, festival participants are invited to relax, network, and meet the artists and other festival goers at the official after parties each evening.
ArtLab J and Detroit Dance City Festival are dedicated to the art of dance in the city of Detroit, creating spaces where people of all ages and abilities can learn about and grow through dance. We aim to educate audiences about the impact of dance, provide opportunities for artists to share their work, and create an artistic network between Michigan, the United States and the world! We believe that dance is for everyone!
