Sung-yop Hong, one of the pioneers of contemporary dance in South Korea, will teach a two-hour workshop for advanced dancers. Hong is Artistic Director of the Korea National Contemporary Dance Company – Korea’s first national contemporary company – and has received both national and international acclaim for his work in Korean contemporary dance.

During this class, Hong will instruct in his unique style of integrating meditation movements with ballet technique. Dancers will learn new approaches to contemporary forms and will explore blending modern technique with traditional South Korean vocabularies. Dancers must be older than 20 years of age, with at least three years of dance experience. Professional dancers with a strong ballet base are encouraged to attend.

This workshop is produced in collaboration with BAM and the US Department of State, who are presenting Korea National Contemporary Dance Company Nov 17-21 in the new BAM Fisher as part of DanceMotionUSA .  DanceMotion USA is a program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of State, produced by BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) to showcase contemporary American dance abroad.
