about the artists

Sean Thomas Boyt and Dr. Andy Thierauf make up cross-disciplinary collaborating unit stb x at.  Formed in 2012, the duo focuses on creating work that spans a variety of genres by using dance and percussion as mediums for engaging performance art.  Sean and Andy have been invited to perform their collaborations across the nation at Seattle’s Converge Dance Festival, PASIC, CollabFest, Philadelphia Fringe, Omaha Under the Radar Festival, Get Pegged Cabaret, and Movement Research.  stb x at has been supported by residencies at Soundspace 1525, the University of Iowa, and Capital City Dance Center.

Collin Ranf: 6th generation Montanan, home-cook, and dance artist working at the intersection of dance and theatre. At 13 he dropped out of out of middle school to become a ballerina later going on to study at The Royal Winnipeg Ballet School. After attaining a B.F.A. from The University of Montana, he moved to NYC to pursue dancing. He is a member of Raja Feather Kelly’s company the feath3r theory. Collin is a 500 hour registered yoga teacher and currently serves on the Dance/NYC Junior Committee. More info: www.collinranf.com

David Appel’s work has been presented in diverse contexts throughout North America, Europe, and in Mexico since 1973. He has also performed with Simone Forti, City Dance Theater of Boston, as an instigator and/or part of several dance/music collaborative and improvisation groups, and with many other individual artists in various media. Appel has received a number of grants and awards, and festival invitations in both the U.S. and abroad. He is continually compelled to look for intersections between the body’s capacity to be more subtly articulate, the ways we find to move together, and our connections to and within the world around us.

HEWMAN: Jason Collins, Lindsay Harwell, and Ingrid Kapteyn graduated from The Juilliard School Dance Division in 2013 and shortly after cofounded HEWMAN. Since its inception, HEWMAN has presented three evening-length installations to sold-out audiences in unconventional venues throughout New York City including a midtown tenement, a Harlem gallery, a Soho loft, a Williamsburg Garage, and a Bushwick photography studio to name a few. HEWMAN has been awarded residencies at Dance Initiative’s, The Launchpad, in Carbondale, CO and Chez Bushwick and has additionally been presented in New York City at Soaking WET, STUFFED, Arts on Site, and Center for Performance Research.
