Ori Flomin presents "First Move"
Wednesday, March 11 – Saturday, March 14 at 7:30 pm
The Theater at Gibney Dance: Agnes Varis Performing Arts Center
Ori Flomin’s First Move is a reflection on the mature dancing body: its history, its knowledge, its possibilities, and its limitations. Featuring performers Hannah Button, Ori Flomin, Isaac Gonyo, and Colleen Thomas, this work makes visible the internal archive of the dancer’s body through the kaleidoscopic interweaving of individuals and materials—people meet, divide, and weave into and out of each other’s worlds.
With an original score by Pierre de Gaillande and Gary Greenblatt and lighting design by Joe Levasseur.
Ori Flomin’s choreography has been presented in New York at Dance Theater Workshop, PS 122, Movement Research at Judson Church, DanceMopolitan at Joe’s Pub, Dance New Amsterdam and Dance space project at St. Marks church as well as internationally at Venues in Austria, Japan, Norway, Sweden and Israel.
He created commissioned work for Connecticut College (2014), Purchase Dance Company (2013) , The Barnard Project at Dance Theater Workshop (2005 and 2010), The New School (2011), The Dance School of Norway, (2009, 2011), and SEAD Austria (2002 – 2008 ).
In 2014 he Received a Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Grant to support his new full evening piece titled First Move to premiere in March 2015 at Gibney Dance.
He was a 2004 Movement Research Artist-in-Residence and 2003 Dance Space Artist in Residence.
Ori served as assistant to the Artistic Director of Stephen Petronio Dance Company, for which he also danced from 1991-1999, and for whom he continues to set work internationally.
