Performing in New York Showcase March 21, 2010
a Broadwayactress all have in common? Ballet class!
Started as an opportunity for master ballet teacher Kat Wildish’s eclectic adult students from The Ailey Extension to perform classical ballet repertoire, the Kat Wildish Performing in New York Showcase brings all kinds of dancers to the stage. A popular event in the local dance scene, the showcases also include dancers taking open classes from studios around the city in a variety of techniques and from small professional troupes.
The March 2010 performances feature choreography staged by teachers Kat Wildish,
Bev Brown, Vic DiMonda, Robin Dunn, Pavaan Thimmaiah, and Shyrelle Kalilikane, in addition to guest artist appearances by 360* Full Circle Dance Company, BEings Dance Company, The Hip-Hop Dance Conservatory Repertory Company, Jazz Roots Dance Company, Yesid Lopez & Dancers, Ashley Carter, and Ursala Verduzco.
ABOUT PERFORMING IN NEW YORK SHOWCASES
Renowned ballet teacher Kat Wildish began producing performances for her adult
students at the Ailey Extension Program in February 2008 with only a 20-person studio
audience. The goal was to offer her adult students (ranging from former jazz dancers to
bankers to actresses, and every real person in between) who might otherwise not have the opportunity to perform, the chance to do so alongside professionals. Her open-level
repertory workshop of weekly rehearsals provides top-notch insight and coaching to
professional and beginner dancers alike. In an effort to give more dancers performing
opportunities, Kat includes students from other NYC classes and under-presented
professional troupes. Tickets often sell out far in advance. Now students are fortunate
enough to work in a true theatrical setting at The Ailey Citigroup Theater, a big
professional step for the students in achieving their dreams of performance.
