The piece, For Steve Reich, is a meditation on minimalism, repetition and the subtle art of change. We hear the same sounds over and over, condensing and coagulating into onenote of pure existence. On the surface there is no change, onlyrepetition. Yet, in that one note are gaps, tiny microscopicravines that contain the nuances and subtleties of life. The rush of fresh love, the melancholy of age and all the myriad ofexperiences that form a person into who they are when they walk into a room. There is an I in everyone and everything you see. There is a bond of shared existence with the world and witheach other. We are fused together in that note, in that room. The note is life and all around its margins lies the gulf.
