Rebecca Rice Dance "Unmasked"
Company:
Rebecca Rice Dance
The program will include five works, two of which are premieres. The premieres include “On Joy and Sorrow” (2011) a work danced to JS Bach concertos and sonatas, which expresses the bond between feelings of joy and sorrow as related in the poetry of Kahil Gibran, and “Verge” (2011), a solo focusing on the conflicts involved in transformation and performed by Mariah Steele to an original score by noted Boston composer, Christos Koulendros. Boston pianist, Constantine Finehouse, will accompany both “Verge” and “Tribute”.
Revivals include the playful “Busy Blues” (2007), a creative romp to the blues music of Jonah Jones and Italian singer, Paolo Conte, the soulful “Bach Dances” (2004), including six movements performed to the Bach Cello Suites, and Stratas (2004), inspired by John Harbison’s “Suite for Solo Cello” (1994), an intricate, complex score by the Pulitzer-prize winning composer. Noted Boston Cellist, Sebastian Baverstam, will accompany “Bach Dances” and “Stratas”.
Dancers include Sara Knight, Ariane Georg, Mariah Steele, Ann-Marie Cofield, Carrie Kerstein, Jessie Stinnett, Ula Galea, and Abbey Kowalec.
Composers include Christos Koulendros, John Harbison, and JS Bach.
The concert will be designed by New York lighting designer Megan Byrne.
