River To River at Governors Island
Hard to believe it's officially June and time to countdown to River To River. I would like to draw your attention to the fact that during the Festival, we have a bevy of events on Governors Island happening at our Arts Center, in Nolan Park, and at St. Cornelius Chapel.
As you might know, this year the island is open to the public 7 days a week. During River To River (June 19–29), we will have a table set up in front of our Arts Center as a place to say "hi" and learn more about the artists and events.
While on the island, whether you love dance, or are curious about it, I would highly recommend checking out our gallery exhibition Trisha Brown: Embodied Practice and Site-Specificity. Then, mark your calendars for the performance by Trisha Brown Dance Company of I’m going to toss my arms—if you catch them they’re yours at Pier 15 (not on the island!) on June 26 at 7pm.
Here's a link to The New Yorker's Summer Dance Preview where they give a little more context for all things Trisha Brown. More choreographers whose performances will be taking place on this picturesque island include Okwui Okpokwasili, Eiko, Vanessa Anspaugh, and Reggie Wilson.
Finally, I wanted to share this conversation between our President Sam Miller and the Broadsheet Daily, as it's a very good read whether you're already a River To River fan, or thinking about dipping your toes in the water for the first time.
We look forward to seeing you at River To River events, and hope you'll join the conversation at #R2R2014 on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
Sincerely,
Marisa Olsen, Audience Development Manager
