STEPS ON BROADWAY ANNOUNCES NEW STATUS OF THE STEPS BEYOND FOUNDATION

Steps on Broadway, one of New York's premiere dance studios, is pleased to announce that the Steps Beyond Foundation, its educational and presenting program, has received non-profit status, enabling the organization to provide more services and support to the artistic community.

The Foundation's inaugural event will take place Saturday January 24th at 7PM, with the Artists Talk, "Hear It From The Pros," a discussion on working in the business of Broadway.  The pros for this discussion are Donna McKechnie, Grover Dale and Randy Skinner, three stars who have enjoyed successful and long-term careers on Broadway, TV, film, and cabaret.  They will discuss how to survive, thrive, and stay relevant in a competitive and ever-changing business.  Audience members are always invited to ask questions. All Artists Talks end with a reception for more talk and mingling.

Established over ten years ago, Steps Beyond looks forward to expanding its programming and providing
**  Scholarships to talented dancers;
**  Choreographers' commissions for the resident Steps Repertory Company which, under the direction of Bradley Shelver, continues to present a varied repertory of works by outstanding contemporary and contemporary ballet choreographers;
**  Community Outreach, which includes teaching creative movement in the Hudson Guild pre-school program for the past four years;
**  Producing artists with works in development, the most recent being Francesca Harper in her critically acclaimed "The Look of Feeling," and the Steps Beyond/ReverbDance Performance Lab;
**  The Artists Talk Series, which offers practical advice and information as well as films and discussions on legends in the concert and commercial world for dance students and the larger artistic community.   Recent presentations have included
        "The Women of Fosse" - Fosse dancers Dana Moore, Diana Laurenson and Mimi Quillin talking about the great choreographer;
        "Getting A Job" - a practical talk with representatives of talent agencies, casting directors and choreographers.   Past participants include Joshua Bergasse, Luis Salgado, Karine Plantadit, and agents and directors from CESD, MSA, Kipperman Casting, Telsey & Company, DDDO, and more;
        "Who Was Jack Cole?" - a lesson in dance history with Broadway choreographer Chet Walker, Carmen de Lavallade, Bill Hastings, Lawrence Rhodes and David Howard;
        "Choreography: The Creative Process Unraveled," a talk with major choreographers including Donald Byrd, Mark Dendy, Jacqulyn Buglisi, Christopher Wheeldon, Tony Stevens, Dwight Rhoden, and others.

This is just a sampling of the many creative programs designed to offer performance opportunities as well as to educate and prepare students for well-rounded and intelligently managed careers in dance.

STEPS BEYOND’s mission is to connect dancers with the wider artistic community by providing opportunities to translate and interpret their daily dance training into performance, and to gain access to people working in the industry.
