WORKSHOP LIZARDS IN SHOES- BRANDON LAGAERT///
“A small lizard is still a lizard”
Over the last decade I have encountered many art-forms that were able to grasp my attention but there are only three where I am profoundly trained in being theatre, breaking and contemporary dance.
In my classes I incorporate various elements of those different styles which results in a strong physical way of working. I find it intriguing that even though these styles differ from one another there are also many similarities to find. I go looking for the similarities to connect those styles and let them flow from one into another.
There are concepts that stem from the work of Peeping tom and others that I have developed myself. This workshop will introduce you to those concepts to spark the creativity within yourself, which can help with making and finding your own movements, phrases, qualities, characters... We will glide, spin, flow, melt, freeze, tick, hoover, glitch and float. My classes have a strong emphasise on floorwork, qualities and states.
Don’t bring shoes. Or Lizards.
-----------
My interest for the stage started at age eleven when I joined a theatre group for teenagers and young adults called Litoziekla. After learning many things there I went to take theatre classes in high school. In high school I came into contact with contemporary dance for the first time but I only started to take it serious at the age of 19.
After I graduated from high school I was accepted into the contemporary dance education at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp. Here my technique dramatically improved over the course of one year. During my year at the conservatory I auditioned for the dance theatre company "Peeping Tom" and was accepted.
Right now I am working with them for almost two years and we are touring the world with our most recent performance called "Vader".
Next to Peeping Tom I … Kaiho, the company that I have founded to house the work that I have been doing as a choreographer. My work researches and investigates the borders between dance and theatre, aesthetic and story, movements and text, urban and contemporary, body and objects. I’m currently working on a performative dance solo, Subdued, which has been selected for the 8th Copenhagen International Choreography Competition (Best Performer Award).
WORKSHOP PHYSICAL THEATRE- KATIOUSCHKA KUHN///
