Second Avenue Dance Company/2011 (SADC) will present its spring concert series March 30 through April 4 and feature the new works of four noted guest choreographers—Sidra Bell, Lucinda Childs, Patricia Hoffbauer, and Benoit-Swan Pouffer. The series will also include work in rotating repertory work by three students- Austin Diaz, Claudia Hubiak, and Claire Westby.

Featured will be a world premiere by Lucinda Childs, Lollapalooza, with music by special permission from John Adams.  Her dance for six interchanging couples requires dynamic, unrelenting spatial and musical precision that resonates with Adams’ complex use of overlapping counterpoint.  Benoit-Swan Pouffer has created the chiaroscuro piece, New Work, to an original score that whips a male/female cast of 15 through physical daring and surprising tenderness.  And reprising their world premieres from SADC’s October 2010 concert are: For this reason I am Naming This Dance, a witty piece with a mixing bowl of ideas including dialogue used to create theater dance by alumna Patricia Hoffbauer; and Le Plongeur, a work with dark, sensual movement vocabulary geared to express an aspect of our current youth culture by Sidra Bell.

The six performance series opens Wednesday, March 30 and runs through Monday, April 4, 2011.  Curtain is 8 p.m.  Admission is 0; seniors and students with ID, free.  All proceeds benefit the Tisch Dance Scholarship Fund.  Performances will take place in the Fifth Floor Theatre, 111 Second Avenue.  For reservations and information, call 212.998.1982, Mon.-Fri., between 1 and 5 p.m.
