"Stories" is a collection of dance works both new and revisited. It is an evening of stories, told by and created with people- boys, girls, men, women- about things we all feel - love, loss, longing, shame, resolution, satisfaction, joy, regret. We tell stories of how we go on, where we come from, where we are going. Each story is a little mirror, reflecting things we all feel, through the faces and bodies of performers. Some of the stories are tender, small and light. Others are ugly, long and lonely. All are deeply felt. All belong to us.

The evening is a reflection of faces that represent the inclusivity and humanity the organization is known for. Beyond its company, Cora is a school and community engagement center based in Red Hook, Brooklyn which uses the arts as a catalyst to intersect diverse people. The evening reflects that intersecting diversity, including professional dancers, youth and guests taking the stage for the first time with the company as well as those who have danced with Cora for a decade.
January 29: Performance and Opening Night Celebration & Benefit
Opening Night Celebration & Benefit includes a farewell to veteran Cora dancer Calia Marshall (whose BAM performances are the final with the company) and a farewell to Cora's departing Board President, Danielle Vidals.
January 30: Performance with post-show talk back with John Hockenberry, host of public radio’s The Takeaway
All of Cora’s programs and performances in their home studio are pay-what-you-can, and they aim to create intersection through the arts by bringing performances and arts experiences to people’s doorsteps. Shannon’s work has been seen as much in school gymnasiums, church basements and free public spaces as on the formal stages of prestigious venues and universities across the country. As part of Cora’s mission, the company believes strongly that access to the arts is a right, not a privilege, and Cora's work, in education, professional work, and performance, aims to address the impediments that restrict individuals from accessing the art form. Cora Dance's performances at BAM will be structured in a similar way by allowing audience members to choose their ticket price from a range. There are four ticket prices listed for each evening of the company's performance at BAM, ranging from $50 to $5. They ask each audience member to choose a price tier that is significant to them. They would like to stress that no ticket price tier is different from any other in any way. They simply want to create entry points for people of all income levels to enjoy the work that Shannon Hummel and the dancers have worked so hard on and are proud to showcase.
