Igor Stravinsky revolutionized music—and his music transformed ballet. Celebrating the genius of this groundbreaking composer, the Virginia Arts Festival has joined with area artistic leaders to recreate and reimagine Stravinsky masterworks that forever changed the performing arts, including Stravinsky’s LES NOCES (THE WEDDING). Stravinsky’s spine-tingling score conjured a pagan wedding ceremony, summoning primitive sounds and images that scandalized and thrilled audiences in 1923. In this electrifying evening, acclaimed choreographer Todd Rosenlieb creates a riveting new staging of Stravinsky’s “dance cantata,” a new vision of this legendary ballet.
