What is our personal practice, our technique language, how to we prepare to enter the space, enter a duet, a trio, a group? This workshop will offer time to improvise, move through set patterns, problem solve, and deepen the relationship we have to our bodies, becoming more attuned to sensation and instinctual choices, finding a physical dialogue with oneself, the space, and others.
Technique
Embodied Presence, a physical dialogue with oneself, the space, and others. What makes it matter and how can we find what that is while executing a dance phrase….what is our personal practice, our technique/language? I would like these questions to linger as we use different physical modalities and instinct to listen, fine tune, practice, and explore ourselves through movement.
Partnering & Contact Improv
Imaginative, sensitive, articulate partnering. This class will offer time to improvise, problem solve, and deepen the relationship we have to our bodies, becoming more attuned to sensation and instinctual choices. In order to develop the trust that is essential when sharing weight, catching, falling, and being caught off center, we will practice ways of safely moving into each other, directing our weight and harnessing the forces of momentum. Encounters ranging from highly physical to the simple and subtle will be explored while improvising in solo, duet, trio, and group forms.
