Catherine Gallant/DANCE and Dances by Isadora

As part of the 92nd Street Y Harkness Dance Center’s Sundays at 3 program, Catherine Gallant/DANCE and Dances by Isadora will present FUTURE/PAST “The Many Faces of Love” a program of new and classic work featuring works which consider the beauty and brutality of love.

The program will highlight excerpts from Ms. Gallant’s current work, An Absurd Vice, and classic signature works on themes of love and death by Isadora Duncan. World-renowned Duncan specialist, Catherine Gallant and her company will perform Brahms Waltzes Op. 39 and Chopin’s Mazurka Op. 33 No. 4 among other rarely seen gems of early modern dance.

These dances of spare eloquence and potent drama demonstrate the company’s versatility as they keep dance history alive while investigating new modes of expression. Sharing new choreography as well as historical dance provides contemporary audiences with insight as to how dance continues to shape and be shaped by our world.

Live music by pianist Cathlene Pineda will add a vital edge to the dancer’s interpretations. The seasoned performers of Catherine Gallant/DANCE are also members of Dances by Isadora. This exchange of historical dance knowledge for contemporary experimentation has lead to a fruitful collaboration between the choreographer and dancers since 1999.

with dancers Catherine Gallant, Michelle Cohen, Francesca Todesco, Chriselle Tidrick, Natalia Brillante, Loretta Thomas, Andrea Berger, Marie Carstens, Eleanor Bunker, Billy Blanken, Rob Fernandez and guest artist Francisco Ruvalcaba.
