AMERICAN TAP DANCE FOUNDATION OPENS ITS DOORS THIS SEPTEMBER - Inspiring The Next Generation of Tap Dancers
The American Tap Dance Foundation seeks to inspire the next generation of tap dancers with its Fall, 2016 Open House Program, featuring performances by the Tap City Youth Ensemble, free tap classes for kids, teens & adults (ages 4 ½ - adult) plus faculty meet and greets with the goal of stimulating interest in America’s indigenous art form, tap dance, among dancers of all ages.
According to Tony Waag, ATDF Artistic/Executive Director, “we seek to challenge the limited perception that tap dance is old-fashioned or too commercial to be taken seriously. We hope to stimulate tap dance artistry and introduce new voices by opening the door to the building blocks of the art form.”
The American Tap Dance Center is a year-round school of tap dance with a comprehensive curriculum for young children, teens and adults (beginner to “Advanced Pro” level). Each year the ATDF training programs serve close to 600 students which includes ongoing Training Programs for Youth, Teens and Adults, the Tap City Youth Ensemble, seasonal Master Tap Intensives, Choreography Workshops for Professionals, an Artists in Residence Program, a Teacher Training Certificate Program and numerous public studio performances, lectures, jams and film presentations. Choreography, composition, and “music for tap” add to the mix.
The American Tap Dance Center’s programming offers students a chance to become immersed in tap culture, while educating students in the history and artistry of tap dance. Faculty includes noted working professionals in the field today, as well as numerous guest teachers who are recognized internationally.
