Nothing Lasts Forever, Nothing is Lost Forever

The End is Near!
Nothing Lasts Forever, Nothing is Lost Forever
September 27-29, 2012
World Premiere at
Brooklyn, NY – Director and choreographer Saifan Shmerer announces her newest evening-length work, Nothing Lasts Forever, Nothing is Lost Forever, at The End in Brooklyn, NY from September 27-29, 2012.
Saturated in a cultural obsession with the apocalypse, this roving performance installation--choreographed by Shmerer and the dancers--immerses the audience in a world of archaic beasts, wandering girls, and the last bird on earth. Nothing Lasts Forever, Nothing is Lost Forever allows us to observe how environment, mythos, and our premonitions of the future culminate in a self- fulfilling prophecy of self-destruction. With an original score by Trevor Wilson, costume and production design by Heather Freedman, and set design by Freedman,Greg Kozatek, and George Hoffman, this evening-length collaboration crosses multiple artistic boundaries, incorporating sound design, and installation, into a truly immersive performance event.
All performances (September 27-29) will take place at The End, located at 18 Kent Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Tickets are 5 and are available online at www.brownpapertickets.com.saifan shmerer | SASSON is a project-based performance collective that makes
post-post-modern dance on the rocks with
a twist (and sometimes an olive).

SASSON's work is concerned with “the
state of things” in any and all of the
following departments: the
world, love, dreams, the apocalypse, drag, academia,
gynecology,
language, history/herstories, sex, imaginary domains, prophesy,
(mis)representation, sugar and flesh. We are a company of artists
working
collaboratively to scheme, choreograph, incubate, engineer and
perform our
wildest dreams with the sweaty fervor of our worst
nightmares.
Saifan Shmerer is geographically located in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn,
emotionally
trapped between fantasy and logic and psychically
road-tripping between matter
and the moon. Her muscle memory contains 19 years of ballet training, tutus and
pointe shoes, 4 years of
hip-hop and jazz, 8 (plus) years of “modern,”
improvisational practice
and performance theory. Her intellectual capacity is
threatening to
max out at 14,562 GB of radical anti-racist feminism(s), childhood
memories, intensive personal inquiry, the kinesthetic dynamics of
quality
espresso and latte art, and the names of her 11 cats (some
deceased). In the
tradition of name-dropping, Saifan graduated from
Eugene Lang College, The
New School for Liberal Arts in 2008. She was the 2008-2009 recipient
of the
Van Lier Fellowship at Dance Theater Workshop. She is the
founder/curator/host of VIParty, a Performance Party Series, currently
on
hiatus. Saifan’s work has appeared at The Tank, La MaMa ETC.,
AUNTS,
American College Dance Festival Association (CT & MA), The
Peace Barn
(CT), Great Friends Dance Festival (RI) and in her kitchen.
