The Kitchen Needs Our Help-

Severe Damage by Hurricane Sandy

Dear Kitchen Community,

Like thousands of others in New York City, The Kitchen was impacted by Hurricane Sandy. Four feet of flooding filled the building’s theater and lobby spaces, causing severe damage. Initial estimates of our loss are between 00,000 and 00,000, if not above, depending on how much material we are able to salvage for future use.

In the spirit of artistic resolve, we are currently renovating the building and doing everything in our power to keep our season’s program intact, beginning with Richard Maxwell in our theater, and Matt Keegan and Eileen Quinlan in our gallery. But at present we are simply unable to say precisely when we will be able to reopen.

Every year at this time, The Kitchen hosts a benefit art auction, the proceeds from which are essential to our program and operations. The importance of this occasion today cannot be overstated. Originally slated for November 12, the event will now take place on November 26, either on The Kitchen site or at an alternate location to be determined. You can now purchase tickets to join us on November 26 or place a proxy bid to help make this year's event our best ever. And of course contributions at any level will enable us to recover as swiftly as possible.

As we do our best to reopen, our thoughts are with the people of New York and New Jersey hit so hard by the storm. And we look forward to welcoming artists and audiences back to The Kitchen very soon.

Very best,
The Kitchen
