The Sokolow Theater/Dance Ensemble is proud to present Modern Rebels, a collection of rarely seen dances ranging from the groundbreaking works of modern dance pioneers Isadora Duncan, Doris Humphrey, Ruth St. Denis, Anna Sokolow, Talley Beatty, and Jane Dudley, to contemporary artists whose artistic lineage is a direct continuation of modern dance tradition. Two performances, May 29 & 30, at The Tank, 312 West 36th Street.
Under the Artistic Direction of Samantha Geracht, the Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble remains the leading custodians of the works, style, and aesthetic of Anna Sokolow, but is ever mindful of supporting young dancemakers. Modern Rebels brings together the rebellious spirit of the early modern dance choreographers and the fierce dedication of the artists who keep their legacies vital. The program includes choreographers (in this concert Stanley Love, Jaime Blanc and Rae Ballard), whose work is in alignment with the Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble's mission of preserving Anna Sokolow's vast repertory and presenting works that are relevant to the times we live in and that touch the hearts of all people.
Members of the Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble will be joined by celebrated artists Christine Dakin, Erica Dankmeyer, and Sandra Kaufman, all former members of the Martha Graham Dance Company.
