New York University/Tisch School of the Arts Department of Dance seeks to fill an Assistant Arts Professor faculty position in its conservatory dance program to begin Fall 2014.  Long recognized as one of the nation's leading dance departments, the program offers a spectrum of courses integrating artistic process and intellectual enrichment, with a focus on technique, performance, and dance composition. The Department of Dance faculty and performing arts professionals maintain a supportive atmosphere of collaboration and continuing artistic achievement.
 
Responsibilities include: instruction in intermediate through professional levels in contemporary dance technique and all levels of improvisation and dance composition; creating choreography on students for main stage productions; mentoring student choreographers; advising student concerts; counseling students on academic and career goals; serving on departmental committees; and engaging in professional creative and scholarly activities. 

Minimum qualifications: relevant degree (preferred) and significant experience as a master teacher (teaching young artists and professionals) with a national reputation as a dancer and/or choreographer; university/professional-level experience teaching technique and composition or improvisation; the ability and desire to collaborate with a collegiate faculty on creative problem solving within the department; and active experience in European or other international dance context. Salary commensurate with experience.

The Tisch Department of Dance enrolls 90 undergraduate dance majors and 30 MFA students. In addition to two theaters and five dance studios, department facilities include digital media and music studios. Students perform in 13 concerts yearly, with internet-based and inter-departmental collaborations involving composers and media artists.
