Twyla Tharp and Three Dances

Company:
Twyla Tharp
Twyla Tharp Dance, the company under the visionary artistic direction of the internationally renowned, award-winning choreographer Twyla Tharp, returns to the Joyce stage for the first time in almost 12 years with a mixed program of repertory and new work. The program opens with Country Dances, a 1976 work set to music from America’s heartland, in which dancers do-si-do through square dance adaptations. 1980’s tour de force, Brahms Paganini showcases the virtuosity, stamina and technical precision of Tharp’s dancers. The work for six is set to Variations on a Theme by Paganini, Opus 36 by Johannes Brahms. The evening closes with a dramatic new work set to Beethoven’s Opus 130.
