Ritual Dances of Cupcake Lust and Desire
Free and Fun for the Entire Family
Bleecker Playground @ West 11th & Bleecker Streets
Saturdays and Sundays: 9/18 &19 and 9/25 & 26 @ 3pm & 5pm

THE CADETS ARE BACK AGAIN! Now needed more than ever, Unison Fetish and the
Cupcake Cadet Corps return in their fourth mission to take back recession-proof Bleecker Street. Determined to deconstruct and demystify the cupcake craze and the consuming desire to consume, the Cupcake Cadet Corps will perform their ritual dances of cupcake lust and desire on the northwest corner of Bleecker and West 11th Streets across from the Magnolia Bakery. The event will take place at 3pm
and 5pm on Saturdays 9/18 & 9/25 and on Sundays 9/19 & 9/26. It is FREE and suitable for tiny tots and everyone else!

Featured on the TODAY Show, TimeOut/NY, and WBAI, Unison Fetish was conceived by long-time West Village resident Sue Hogan as a response to the continuing upscale “mallification” of Bleecker Street occurring despite the nation’s economic downturn. Ms. Hogan drew her inspiration for the Cupcake Cadets Corps from the mass “unison” movement of tourists and shoppers into the neighborhood seeking to purchase luxury global brands and to ingest the fetish object of consumer bliss,
a cupcake from the Magnolia Bakery. Exploring themes of appropriation and unison movement, Ms. Hogan’s choreography for six Cadets and twelve cupcakes references works by George Balanchine, Trisha Brown, Charles Moulton’s precision ball passing dances, and, of course, the Rockettes! The event is a provocative satire framing questions about consumerism, consumption, and their sustainability. First
deployed in 2008, the Cadets will complete their fourth tour of duty in September 2010.
