Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia

New York, March 14, 2018 – NYU Skirball will present the V.4 Dance Festival, bringing together some of the boldest dance-makers from The Visegrád Group (V4), the cultural and political alliance of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, on April 19 and 20 at 7:30 pm. The countries come together for this rare, two-day festival of Central European contemporary dance.
The festival offers a satisfying and intimate sampling of the fantastical and the hypnotic, the tongue-in-cheek and the playful humdrum of everyday, and features performances by Debris Company (Slovakia), Věra Ondrašíková (Czech Republic), Paweł Sakowicz (Poland) and Timothy and the Things (Hungary):
The V.4 Festival, curated by Laurie Uprichard in association with the Polish Cultural Institute New York and NYU Skirball, features one choreographer/company from each of the Visegrád Countries.

Věra Ondrašíková (Czech Republic): Guide
Guide is a hypnotic audiovisual experience in which the past and present become one. Two performers, in individual solos, sculpt the stage space with lasers to magical effect. Trailer: Guide
Věra Ondrašíková has appeared as a guest performer at, among others, the Komedie Theatre in Prague, and at Festivals throughout Europe. She worked as a choreographer in residence in Mexico, Germany and France. She created the choreography for Havel's Antikódy at the National Theatre, which was also performed in Washington, Miami and New York in 2013. veraondrasikova.squarespace.com
Paweł Sakowicz (Poland): Total
Total is a solo created and performed by Sakowicz that speculates on dance virtuosity with a tongue-in-cheek approach.
Paweł Sakowicz is a choreographer and dancer, working with artists and curators in Warsaw, London and Berlin. Sakowicz’s artistic development was supported by a scholarship awarded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of Poland, a residency program run by the Institute of Music and Dance in Warsaw, and y the Alternative Dance Academy of the Art Stations Foundation by Grażyna Kulczyk. https://pawelsakowicz.com

Debris Company (Slovakia): Wow!
Wow!, choreographed by Stanislava Vlčeková, is a fantastical duet exploring the history of humankind and its impact on the environment. Wow Trailer
Debris Theatrical Company (formerly Hubris Company), presents contemporary dance, performance, installation and site-specific works, layering the visual, musical, sonic and kinetic senses and playing against the illusionism of real time.
Timothy and the Things (Hungary): Your Mother at My Door
This duet, performed and co-created by László Fülõp and Emese Cuhorka, plays with the idea of boredom and elapsed time spent on odd and humdrum activities. The two extraordinary performers play with and off each other in scenes that conjure up childhood foolishness enacted with adult emotions. Your Mother at My Door Trailer
László Fülöp, co-founder of Timothy and Things, is a Budapest based contemporary dance choreographer and performer. His work most often revolves around exploring and analyzing issues relating to all forms of human social behavior and communication. http://www.laszlofulop.com
NYU SKIRBALL
NYU Skirball, located in the heart of Greenwich Village, is one of New York City’s major presenters of international work and has been the premier venue for cultural and performing arts events in lower Manhattan since 2003. The 860-seat theater, led by Director Jay Wegman, provides a home for internationally renowned artists, innovators and thinkers. NYU Skirball hosts over 300 events annually, from re-inventions of the classics to cutting-edge premieres, in genres ranging from dance, theater and performance arts to comedy, music and film.
NYU Skirball’s unique partnership with New York University enables it to draw on the University’s intellectual riches and resources to enhance its programming with dialogues, public forums and conversations with artists, philosophers, scientists, Nobel Laureates and journalists.
